Shaun Chen has dedicated his life to public service and the people of Scarborough North. Born in Toronto, Shaun has deep roots growing up in the Scarborough community he is proud to call home.
As our Member of Parliament since 2015, Shaun has championed the needs of everyday families in our diverse and dynamic riding. He currently sits on the Standing Committees on the Library of Parliament, the Scrutiny of Regulations, and Science and Research.
A lifelong advocate for children and youth, Shaun was first elected in 2006 to the Toronto District School Board as our Trustee for Ward 21, Scarborough–Rouge River. In 2014, he was elected as Chair of the Board, the first Scarborough Trustee to hold the post.
Shaun led Canada’s largest school board to approve a balanced $3 billion operating budget, enact a new whistle-blower policy, and establish an integrity commissioner, while remaining focused on helping every student achieve their potential.
He also sat on the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association and the Children’s Services Advisory Committee of the City of Toronto, where he worked to support a multi-year strategy to expand the city’s childcare system.
Named by Maclean’s as one of “100 young Canadians to watch” in 2000, Shaun graduated from Sir John A. Macdonald Collegiate Institute and went on to the University of Toronto, where he received his BSc in computer science and equity studies and MA in sociology in education.
